Jennifer was born in southern
California and Andy grew up in Pennsylvania. They met at work
in North Carolina. They were
married in the Bahamas in 1999,
and now live in Chicago with their
two boys.
This site
began
as a place to share vacation photos with family and friends.
Then, I added the now defunct webcam
for a graduate
school project. The project
was to use the web to revolutionize the way something is done
- I chose "monitoring your pets while you're away"
- still working on the remote control litter box "scoop
a poop and win a prize" idea. It's pretty cool to look
back and see
how the site has evolved
over the past several years.
The site then snowballed out of control as Jennifer's geeky
hobby. So why whywework? Well 1) Most everything else was already
taken, 2) It's catchy and easy to remember, and 3) We both work
long hours in challenging jobs so traveling is pretty much...why
we work.
We can
update the site from any internet connection (internet cafe,
mobile phone with email, you name it). It's now a part of every
day on vacation and we've gotten by fairly well in foreign lands
pantomining "typing on a keyboard" and repeatedly
saying "internet?".
Most of the pictures on this
site were taken with some form of Nikon - we've had a variety
of Coolpix cameras and DSLRs
and currently have a D300 and D700. We also shoot a lot with our cameraphones.
It's a great memory aid (wine labels or restaurant signs), and
though not the best quality it sometimes produces a cool painterly effect.
