Greetings from Newport Beach. We're here to help my Granny celebrate her 80th birthday. This is the view from our room on the 16th floor of the Four Seasons - note the proximity to shopping :) . posted from a Nokia mobile phone in Newport Beach, Ca
Today was a work day, so we started by driving out to Saddlebrook Resort which is just north of Tampa. It is really nice - reminded me a lot of Amelia Island, without the ocean part. Andy set up the booth and took care of some administrivia and we were on our way. We spent the afternoon at Busch Gardens Tampa. I can't remember the last time that I was on a roller coaster, but our main reason for visiting was the animals. We headed straight for the "behind the scenes of the Seregeti" tour - got to drive around in a landrover and get up close and personal with the animals. We fed this giraffe. These guys rarely come out from their hiding place in a nearby tunnel, so we felt fortunate when this guy came right up to the truck. But not NEARLY as fortunate as when we came across the ring-tailed lemur area - score!
Other highlights include the hippo lagoon, where you can watch them from above the water or below, and riding the Montu roller coaster - you know it's going to be good if you have to put all of your stuff in a locker and ride barefoot so your shoes don't fly off!
Last night we headed out in search of seafood, again. The cuisine here is called "Floribbian" - not quite sure what that means but there seems to be a lot of shrimp. We ended up at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill, which is right on Clearwater beach. There was another great sunset - and everyone began to clap when the sun finally sank below the horizon.
Today we drove about 20 minutes north to Honeymoon Island where we caught the 15 minute ferry to Caledesi Island State Park. Very quiet and relaxing :)
The weather was gorgeous today - perfect day for a walk to the federal building to have additional pages added to my passport. posted from a Nokia mobile phone in Chicago.
