One of the ways that you can tell that summer has arrived in Chicago is the presence of Vincent. He wears wild suits and waves at boat-loads of tourists as they pass beneath him on the State Street bridge. For the past four years I've seen him - you can't help but notice him in his *wild* suits. I have also seen him lurking in the back of the Studio 5 set - often during the morning weather forecast. For a while I wondered if I was the only one who could see him :)
I knew that there HAD to be a story behind this guy, but previous google attemps were unsuccessful. Last Thursday I snapped this picture of him as I headed to Marina City to pick up my car. On a hunch, I googled "chicago state street bridge waving man in suit" and low and behold came across this article (and this article too) that explains his interesting story. Would you believe he's a computer programmer! even has his own web site! So for all of you Chicagoans who've wondered "who is that guy that wears the wild suits and waves at people?" - the mystery has been solved!
Here's to you Mr. Wild-Suit-Wearing Bridge Waver Guy.
Continuing to make the best of "work from home summer" (long story short, office is moving and the "move out" date and the "move in" date didn't quite match) I spent lunch in the sun on the roof.
The weather this week has been just about perfect - Check out the panoramic view from the roof! Taken with a Nokia 3650 Cameraphone - View all cameraphone pictures

Working from home can make you stir-crazy sometimes. I usually exercise during lunch, but today I took a relaxing break on the roof deck.
This was our first real experiment with long exposures using neutral density filters. Not bad for a first attempt, but next time we might need to use more than one ND filter.

Harumph - our last day. Took a walk on the beach, packed, and headed to the airport. The airport is a series of 4-5 giant palapas Just because it's a thatched roof dwelling does not mean it needs to be low-tech. The whole place is a wireless hotespot. We sat outside, did a tad of shopping, and had a quesadilla (note to self, must find Oaxacan cheese at home). The departure area is nicely airconditioned compared to the rest of the airport which is outside. And here's the Continental Express jet we took to Houston. All of the handicrafts made it home safely - "real" trip pictures (in comparison to the phone pictures posted in the journal entries) to be posted in the next few days.
