With two clouded-out sunrises so far this week, I was happy to have a somewhat decent sunset to shoot last night.

The new Trump International hotel/residences and the old IBM building (move your mouse over the image to view the black and white version).

And I thought I would share this mistake. This is what happens when you are making an HDR image, but you accidentally select source images not only with different exposures but with different views. It kind of looks like another city, or maybe the same view but in the future.

The sunflower lot has peaked, will need to find another diversion next weekend...

I slept in this am and missed what was probably a great pre-dawn scene :( Here's the view around 6:40.

And here's a pano from Wednesday that I just found on the point and shoot camera. Managed to not crop out the moon this time :)

The moon was lower in the sky today, so tomorrow's position might be even better if there is enough of a crescent left to see.

I went over to that lot with all the sunflowers that I noticed last year and shot a few pictures this weekend.

And of course, since I was awake this morning I shot a few pics of the sunrise. This pano actually includes the new Trump building on the right (click for larger version).

    An hour this morning:

6:06 am : Still dark. Fog or low clouds hang over the buildings along Michigan Avenue

6:39 am : The sun peeked over the horizon at 6:30, but there's usually better light when it is between or directly behind certain buildings.

7:09 am : The sun is on the South side of the Hancock building, bathing everything to the west in rays of filtered sunlight. Strange shadows of the buildings appear in the clouds.

Up early - on a Saturday... but at least there was an interesting sunrise. At first it seemed like the fog would mask everything, but then the clouds shifted producing am ethereal effect for a few miles along the lakefront.

The cats causing chaos before 5am today, and there was less fog than earlier in the week so I was able to snap a few decent sunrise pictures. According to my iPhone astronomy app (pUniverse - suggestions for others welcome) that's Mars above the Hancock building in the first image.

September is usually a decent month for stunning sunrises, and we're off to a good start so far. The silhouetted buildings and the perfectly cloudless sky this morning produced an interesting filtered light effect.
