For Christmas of 2009, we headed East to Japan in search of snow monkeys and cranes. Though we had made reservations months and months in advance, we were really busy in the fall so I didn’t have time for my usual meticulous planning. Considering that we were “winging it”, I am still amazed that 1) we actually found the snow monkey place, and 2) we successfully drove ourselves around Kushiro in winter. This was QUITE an adventure.
Tokyo
Have you seen the movie Lost in Translation? If not, imagine jet lag, neon lights, insane traffic, crazy crowds of people, and Andy and I.

Yudanaka
Located near Nagano, Yudanaka is the gateway to the Jigokudani monkey park. Still surprised that we made it all the way there.

Kushiro
Located on Japan’s north island of Hokkaido, Kushiro is home to several Japanese Crane reserves.
