In May 2006 we spent a long weekend
in Amsterdam. We'd been to Amsterdam before, but Andy had
a work trip to Germany that happened to coincide with the
end of the annual blooming of the tulips (something that's
been on our list). For more touristy pictures of Amsterdam,
see
the 2004 page.
We used Priceline
and got the Hilton for about half the best available rate
we'd seen elsewhere. The Hilton is located on a canal in a
very clean Parisian-feeling neighborhood. It is about a 10
minute walk from the Vondelpark and Museumsplein. It's a bit
of a hoof to Centrale Station (20 min tram ride), but the
trams are cheap and run frequently.

View from our room
Though we didn't see the endless fields of tulips flanked by windmills (apparently
we were too late in the season), the Keukenhoff
gardens did not disappoint.
