Grand Cayman

Of course we picked the El Nino year to visit Grand Cayman. Would the rain ever stop? Luckily we had a cute little condo right in middle of Seven Mile Beach so there were plenty of non-diving diversions.

Stayed at the Seabreeze Apartments - under $200 high season in Cayman is hard to beat, and they weren't slums. We had a full kitchen, living room, and separate bedroom. It was huge. The property fronted the best portion of seven mile beach - hammocks between the trees and absolutely deserted. There was a shopping center across the way that had a Dominos, Subway, and convenience store - and we could walk anywhere we wanted to go.

Basically, the weather was poor (supposedly due to El Nino). We only dove two days - and it wasn't as good as everyone suggests. Harumph.

The stingray dive was definitely the highlight - especially since two people our boat returned with fairly substantial stingray hickeys :)

Note to self - listen to the dive briefing about NOT wiping fish on your arms.

The only memorable dinner was at the Wharf - cool to see the tarpon arrive for their 9pm feeding. If we go back, we'll definitely skip Grand Cayman and head for Cayman Brac.
