Tortuguero
is on the northeast Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and
is where all Atlantic Green Sea Turtles lay their eggs
each year. In addition to a late-night turtle-viewing
expedition, highlights in Tortuguero included waking
up to the roar of howler monkeys, exploring the canals
of Tortuguero national park, and our table mates.
Corcovado
is on the southwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. We
flew in a 4-seater charter plane, landed on a grass
airstrip, and hiked along the beach for 45 minutes.
The trek was SO worth it - more monkeys than coatimundis
than we could count and you can't beat the ever-present
sound of the rumbling surf!
Located
4,600 feet above sea level, Monteverde
was a welcome break from the heat and humidity. Highlights
include hiking in the cloud forest, troops of white
faced monkeys at the hotel, our first sloth sighting,
and a horseback ride with a stop to see monkeys that
jumped out of the trees onto our heads and shoulders!
Manuel
Antonio is located on the Pacific coast of Costa
Rica, just south of Quepos. Although not nearly as remote
as our other stops, it was a great place to regroup
before our flight home. Highlights in Manuel Antonio
include a great guided tour of the national park, dozens
of sloth sightings, and spectacular sunsets.
"Nowhere worth going is easy to get to"
In
July 2004, we spent a spectacular week in Costa Rica. Costa
Rica Expeditions did a phenominal job organizing our custom
itinerary. Every aspect of the trip - from the transportation, to
the accommodations, to the guides, to the food - exceeded our expectations.
And if you met us on this vacation, send
us an e-mail. Somehow we wound up without any pictures of y'all!
