Getting There

Friday 23-Dec - Departed Chicago 5:15pm - American Airlines #86 (~7.5 hour flight)

Saturday 24-Dec - Arrived London 6:50am, hung out in the BA lounge for a bit, took over an hour to change terminals.

Arrived Nairobi 9:20pm. Took about 10 minutes to get through immigration. Saw Christopher holding a sign with our name on it just past customs. Airport was calm and orderly compared to others we've been to. Drive to the Nairobi Serena took about 30 minutes. After a quick stop in our room, we got a few Tuskars (local beer) at the bar and then convinced the restaurant to let us skip the buffet and order off the menu.

Andy ordered a cheeseburger with fries, and I told the waiter that I'd share some of Andy's burger and after that I wanted a piece of apple pie. 10 minutes later 2 burgers arrived - I was too tired to try to explain so I kept it. It had some odd flavor - perhaps curry - so I skipped it but enjoyed the fries.

When we returned to our room a fter dinner it was close to 11pm (2pm Chicago time). We tried to use the WebTV, but the connection was down. Andy channel surfed for a bit while I read the lodge information booklet. There was a stern warning against local "confidence trickers" and even a bulleted list of common scams. From what we'd seen so far, the whole "Nairobi = Nai-robbery" angle described in the US Department of State stuff was way overrated.
